The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill the position of Training Officer in the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation.
General Functions
Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC) and the guidance and direct supervision of the Head of the Geneva-based Courses Unit of the Course Design and Training Section, the incumbent will undertake the following responsibilities:
  1. Participate in the design and delivery of training in accordance with the Progressive Learning Strategy by developing materials, lecturing and tutoring participants; help design and conduct revision sessions, including in response to specific enquiries by the participants; contribute to training activities organized by, or in collaboration with other WTO Divisions or ITTC Units.
  2. Assist in developing training evaluation tools and methods used to implement Results-Based Management and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of ITTC's activities.
  3. Lead the participants in study tours and visits in Geneva and/or elsewhere.
  4. Contribute to the design and delivery of the ITTC's e-Learning programme.
  5. Assist other Divisions upon request, particularly in Technical Cooperation missions abroad.
  6. Perform any other tasks requested by the Director or the Head of Unit, e.g. reports on specific questions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Advanced university degree in Law, Economics or other relevant areas is required.
Knowledge and skills:
Good knowledge of the economic, legal and/or political theory and principles under the WTO Agreements and system.
Knowledge of adult learning/development techniques.
Pedagogical skills; presentation skills; skills in the use of IT products and communications in training activities.
Ability to interact with course participants as an audience.
The following interpersonal capabilities are required: present technical facts to knowledgeable specialised audiences; persuade others to a point of view using facts; face and cope with conflict situations with colleagues; work as a member of a team, relating to others, while working independently to achieve his/her objectives; initiate and build relationships with a variety of people both inside and outside the organization; communicate complex abstract ideas to an audience of informed people and understand ideas when communicated by others.
Work Experience:
A minimum of two years of relevant professional experience, including in international economic and trade-related issues and negotiations, preferably in a multilateral environment. In addition, technical/practical trade-related work experience in a national administration and a good understanding of the situations confronted by the participants in their official functions will be an asset.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English and Spanish required. A good working knowledge of French is desirable.
