Summary of the role
The successful candidate will work in a small, supervised team of highly motivated staff and will report to the Facilities Supervisor. Ideally, he or she will have a professional printing background.
The primary focus of this varied and interesting role is to join an established and integrated team of experienced staff involved in the day-to-day running of the print room, as well as taking on handyperson responsibilities including building maintenance and official driving duties. Based at the ECMWF headquarters in Shinfield, the successful candidate will also occasionally be required to carry out similar duties to support a project team based at a remote office facility in Reading.
He or she will therefore have a good background in industrial printing, preferably with some experience in minor building maintenance.
Main duties and key responsibilities
Candidates are expected to have gained experience in some of the following areas
Printing duties
  • Digital printing and finishing
  • Lithographic printing
  • Printing on plotter
  • Supporting and maintaining multi-functional printing devices and advising staff in their operation
Other duties
  • Distributing paper throughout the buildings
  • Assisting with moving furniture and equipment within the buildings
  • Fixing any safety hazards
  • Minor plumbing and carpentry
  • Painting and decorating
  • Liaising with contractors and other workers
  • Official driving duties, including mini-bus shuttle service to and from remote office facility
  • Snow and ice clearance
  • Power washing paths and patios
  • Carpet cleaning

Qualifications and experience required
Education
Candidates should have a good secondary level of education.
Experience
  • Knowledge and previous experience acquired in a similar job, involving print room production is essential.
  • Relevant experience in industrial printing processes is essential.
  • Minor building maintenance and related handyperson duties would be highly desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of MS-Office package (Word or Excel).
  • Full clean driving licence is essential.
Language
Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and interviews will be conducted in English.
A good knowledge of one of the Centre's other working languages (French or German) would be an advantage.
Other information
Grade remuneration
The successful candidate will be recruited at the C5 grade, according to the scales of the Co-ordinated Organisations and the annual basic salary will be £34,157 net of tax. This position is assigned to the employment category STF-C as defined in the Staff Regulations.

Length of contract: Four years, with the possibility of a further contract.
