We're looking for a smart, talented, hardworking Web Content Manger with a passion for making the world a better place to join our growing marketing team. The Web Content Manager is responsible for planning and delivering fresh, compelling, high-quality content for www.conservation.org and related websites.
The Web Content Manager works with the Sr. Director, Web Strategy and Development in developing a roadmap for the website and in planning and executing the content strategy. S/he will manage the content acquisition process, including coordination with editors, freelancers and internal writers as necessary to ensure high-quality, on-brand content.
The Web Content Manager will incorporate information from web analytics, usability testing, A-B testing, changing business goals, and emerging web content practices to continually improve web conversions and user experience. S/he will regularly review and improve web properties including planning and executing site updates, and engaging team members and business partners as needed. S/he will partner with marketing, social media and others to support campaigns, promotions and events.
Keys to success in this role include: developing and sustaining relationships with internal Web stakeholders to understand business objectives and ensure appropriate design, architecture, content and maintenance; working with key stakeholders to develop new high-quality web content and keep existing web content fresh, relevant and in line with communications goals; performing gap analysis, helping to develop site structure, writing/editing copy, identifying necessary visual communication pieces such as maps, graphics or interactive elements and project-managing the delivery of these assets.
Additional duties include participating in major web projects such as visual redesigns, functionality changes, platform migrations, etc. and performing other web-related duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and sustain relationships with internal staff to understand business objectives and ensure appropriate design, architecture, content and maintenance of the website to reflect these needs.
  • Consult with internal stakeholders to develop new content and keep existing content fresh, up-to-date and relevant.
  • Act as all-around web consultant to internal stakeholders and provide guidance on digital best practices.
  • Partner with Sr. Manager, Web Analytics to incorporate findings of analytics assessments, A/B testing, and usability to continually improve site experience.
  • Work closely with Sr. Director, Web Strategy to develop the website roadmap from a visual, content and functional viewpoint.
  • Identify opportunities and provide recommendations to improve website, fundraising and other online presence efforts. This includes monitoring internal and external news to seize upon opportunities to develop fresh web (or suggesting blog) content and finding new ways to utilize web technology to showcase CI's work.
  • Manage web content projects, keeping them on time and within scope.
  • Project-manage the delivery of visual web assets in support of communication goals, such as maps, web graphics, interactive experiences or web videos (includes taking part in concept development, coordinating production with internal or external resources, reviewing and testing).
  • Write and edit web copy as needed, including titles, headers, teases and captions.
  • Participate in global web projects such as visual redesigns, structural redesigns, user experience testing, migration to new platforms, and other projects as needed.
  • Provide backup support for maintaining web content on content management system (CMS), currently MS SharePoint 2013.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Communications, English, Marketing, or related
  • 5 years of experience in a web-related position such as web production, content development/management, web writing, web strategy, etc.
  • Self-motivated and able to operate with limited supervision
  • Knowledge of online marketing and communications concepts
  • Comfort with fast-paced information flows and complex issues
  • Excellent web writing and editing skills
  • Good conceptual and visual skills: ability to mock up a layout and evaluate a design
  • Experience with search engine optimization (SEO)
  • Experience with web project management and web workflows
  • Familiarity with information architecture, site mapping and page-level layout
  • Proven ability to work well in a team, with multiple content owners and subject matter experts
  • Experience working with enterprise content management systems (CMS)
  • Basic to proficient front-end coding skills: ability to write/troubleshoot standards-compliant HTML/CSS
  • Familiarity with web analytics (Google Analytics, Omniture, WebTrends, etc.)
Preferred
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about conservation and sustainable development issues
  • Experience supporting a non-profit website
  • Experience with video production and social networking platforms
  • Experience working with a multi-location, or international site
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese or French
