Background

The GEF Small Grants Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in New York seeks to enlist a full-time intern to support with social media outreach. The intern will assist the Communications and KM Specialist in drafting messages for Facebook and Twitter engaging SGP's social media audience, and monitoring all social media accounts for SGP. The intern will also research and dratf stories to be featured in the GEF and SGP websites.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Communications Specialist, the intern will specifically be responsible for the following

• Drafting messages for SGP's Facebook channel https://www.facebook.com/pages/GEF-Small-Grants-Programme/182597078426039;
• Monitor the SGP global and local websites, Flicker and YouTube accounts for new content; draft and schedule posts for Twitter and Facebook in English (and Spanish and/or French, if possible);
• Based on the media clippings, select the most interesting content, prepare draft tweets and schedule them for approval via HootSuite;
• Research additional content on SGP's projects for case studies and articles;
• Research interesting posts from partners and schedule retweets;
• Actively expand the network of followers;
• Monitor social media accounts for: mentions for retweeting, questions, and negative comments, and flag them to the Communications and KM Specialist;
• Support live tweeting from events;
• Support preparations for social media outreach and implementation for relevant International Days related to Sustainable Development;
• Research and write articles;
• Research projects supported by SGP and write stories for our website;
• Other tasks as requested by the Communications Specialist.

Institutional Arrangements

Interns' Expenses

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP. All costs connected with an intern's participation in the programme must be borne by the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; or the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, etc.

Insurance

UNDP accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship. As interns are not covered under any insurance, including MAIP, and they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their internship with UNDP. Applicants for internship must show proof of valid medical and life/accident insurance for the duty station for which they will work. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the internship which requires transportation to the Home Country or Country of Residence for further treatment; or results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the Home Country, or Country of Residence.

Subsequent Employment

The purpose of the Internship Programme in UNDP is not to lead to further employment with UNDP but to complement the intern's studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an internship. Should an offer of employment be envisaged, a 3-month break, from the end of the internship, must be respected. Interns cannot apply for posts or consultancies during the period of internship.

Third-party claims

UNDP is not responsible for any claims by any parties where the loss of or damage to their property, death or personal injury was caused by the actions or omission of action by the interns during their internship.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

• Must be currently enrolled in a Master's degree program.

Experience

• Experience in communications desirable;
• Proficient in using new technologies, web-based platforms and social media networks;
• Familiar with sustainable development, environment or international development/relations.

Languages

• Fluent in English and either Spanish or French;
• Fluency in all 3 is a plus.

Interns are not financially remunerated by UNDP.
