Background / General description

IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world. Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 2 year term appointment

Duties and Accountabilities

Investment Analysts work closely with IFC's Investment Officers, who are responsible for the design, negotiation, structuring and subsequent supervision of the Corporation's investment projects. Investment Analysts assist Investment Officers and work closely with colleagues across various departments in developing and executing transactions. The position will be based in Hong Kong in the Infrastructure & Natural Resources Department, with coverage of the Asia Pacific region.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
  • Creating financial models;
  • Analyzing historical and projected financial statements;
  • Preparing reports based on financial statements, financial models, project progress reports, and other information from portfolio or prospective client companies;
  • Designing and conducting due diligence;
  • Preparing documentation for IFC internal approvals;
  • Establishing and maintaining close relationships with client companies to enhance new business opportunities;
  • Participating in investments negotiations and assisting in transaction documentation;
  • Conducting industry and market research for business development ;
  • Participating in the monitoring of existing investments.

Selection Criteria
  • Bachelor's or equivalent degree with specialization in finance
  • Experience in a financial institution (2+ years) with a track record in executing M&A, corporate finance, and/or restructuring transactions;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and sound judgment to identify issues and present creative and practical solutions;
  • Solid foundation in accounting and financial model construction;
  • Facility to work successfully in multicultural teams and across geographical boundaries;
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills;
  • Strong client service orientation with an openness to feedback and new ideas;
  • Excellent presentation skills;
  • Fluency in English and Putonghua.
