IFC finances private sector investments, mobilizes capital in the international financial markets, helps clients improve social and environmental sustainability, and provides technical assistance and advice to governments and businesses in the developing world. Financial market institutions are leading recipients of IFC investment financing. IFC is seeking to hire an Investment Analyst based in its country office in Bogota, Colombia as part of the Financial Institutions Group (FIG). Investment Analysts work closely with IFC's Investment Officers, who are responsible for the design, negotiation, structuring, and subsequent supervision of the Corporation's investment projects. Investment Analysts help identify new projects and assist Investment Officers in executing deals, advising private companies on restructuring and using new financial instruments (e.g. risk management tools).
Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year term appointment.
Duties and Accountabilities
The Investment Analyst will be integrated into the team that develops new business, completes transactions, and supervises a portfolio of loan, quasi-equity and equity investments in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Bolivia. The candidate is required to know and effectively use fundamental business concepts and practices and to provide analytical, research and other professional support to professional level Investment Officers. Work is varied and somewhat complex in character requiring evaluation, original thinking and various written outputs.
Responsibilities
- Monitor operational and financial performance of client companies to evaluate risk and recommend active portfolio management actions
- Monitor compliance with IFC financial, environmental and legal requirements
- Analyze financial statements and other reports from client companies and prepare periodic portfolio reports
- Perform quarterly equity valuations, investment credit analyses and loss reserve recommendations
- Conduct industry, market and company research
- Assist in business development through the analysis of potential investment opportunities
- Participate in due diligence/appraisals
- Create detailed financial models and analyze the viability of new investments
- Support the structuring of new investments
- Liaise with colleagues across departments in the region and at Headquarters in Washington D.C.
- University degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related subjects
- At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in finance, banking, portfolio management, or consulting
- Experience in a major bank/financial institution is desirable
- Good knowledge of Andean financial markets and of one or more Latin American financial markets is a plus
- Sound numerical, analytical and conceptual skills encompassing finance and the associated areas of financial investment, portfolio management, corporate finance and economics
- Strong financial analysis and modeling skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English and Spanish
- Strong sense of team teamwork
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment and willingness to travel
- Ability to multi-task in a target oriented environment and produce high quality, error-free work while meeting very tight deadlines
- Commitment to economic development in emerging markets
