OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
Background
The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO's first education-related category 1 Institute towards the development and promotion of new approaches to education for a more peaceful and sustainable world. The Institute based in New Delhi, India, aims to contribute to the conceptualization, design and formulation of regional and sub-regional strategies in education for peace and sustainable development, in particular through South-South and triangular North- South-South cooperation. MGIEP plans to provide an integrated approach to education for peace and sustainable development.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Director, Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development, the incumbent will serve as Senior Project Officer overseeing the identification, design and implementation of cutting edge information communication technologies (ICT) for the various program activities in the Institute. The incumbent will work within the framework of Institute's Mid-term strategy, Biennial programmes and budget consistent within overall UNESCO framework for action. This post is aimed at a candidate with responsibility of planning; coordinating, developing and implementing national and international programmes entail advisory, managerial, supervisory role and leadership of programmes and projects, in particular
Main Activities
- Manage and supervise the MGIEP team in implementation of the programmes, including development of program budgets, staff management in close consultation with The Director of the Institute.
- Oversee the identification, design and implementation of cutting edge ICT for the various programs of the institute in close collaboration with the Director of the Institute.
- Provide expertise in the use of cutting edge ICT for the Institute programmes.
- Coordinate the dissemination of lessons learnt from the implementation of the programme and identifies opportunities for the scale-up of the Programme; Coordinate the development of knowledge products including ICT to capture lessons learnt in the implementation of the Programme.
- Coordinating the planning, development and submission of 'out of the box' project proposals.
- Coordinate MGIEPs overall engagement with the UNESCO.
- University degree (equivalent to Bachelor) in Information System/Technology/Education/Social Sciences or relevant field equivalent professional qualification;
- Expertise and relevant work experience in cutting edge information communication technology will be an advantage.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Building Partnerships, Team Management, Working with national government, Communication, Creativity and Innovation, ICT Awareness, Result Based Management, Fund Raising.
- Fluent in English necessary and knowledge of another UN official language desirable.
UNESCO's salaries are calculated in US dollars and exempt from income tax. They consist of a basic salary and a post adjustment which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station and exchange rates.
Other benefits include: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, home travel, education grant for dependent children, pension plan and medical insurance. Please note that UNESCO is a non-smoking Organization.
